POSITION: Assistant Controller
DEPARTMENT: Accounting/Finance
REPORTS TO: VP-Accounting
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for all accounting functions and manages the Treasury function. Assist with the coordinating and administering of the accounting/financial operations group. Assists with the reviews, analyzes and interpretation of financial and budgetary reports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise accounting staff: AP/AR, property accountants.
Work with Accounting Management team to develop best business practices to safeguard Client and Company assets, enhance department efficiency, promote the Company initiatives and maintaining cohesive accounting practices amongst all ownership groups.
Oversee all cash receipts, accounts receivables, and payables functions for the company and managed properties.
Manage the process for transactional posting that leads to and supports the company's operating results and financial condition.
Oversee month end close including, General Ledger maintenance and JE posting to assure sub ledgers are accurate.
Regular reviews of accountants’ work including financial statements and supporting materials.
Perform or oversee banking/treasury functions for ACH’s and wires, mortgage payments, and investor distributions. Determine cash requirements & fund check runs, including tax payments.
Oversee the delivery of annual tax return support to 3rd party CPA’s. Provide supporting schedules as required (Financials, K-l’s, distribution schedules, operating agreements, etc.)
Work with 3rd party CPAs and accountants to prepare and remit quarterly and annual tax payments to federal and state tax authorities.
Prepare and perform quarterly and/or annual training for the accounting team for CTI Reconciliation tasks, budget tasks, refresher training, and new processes.
Assist in the coordination of special projects related to accounting and reporting systems, as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Undergraduate degree in accounting.
CPA desired, but not required.
7-10 years’ experience in Real Estate accounting.
Currently an assistant controller or an accounting manager for a minimum of the last three years.
Strong knowledge in GL Account Reconciliation, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, etc.
Proficient in Yardi Voyager, MS Word and Excel.
Yardi proficiency to include the accounting, budgeting, A/P, and reconciliation modules.
Experience with an investor portal or manual investor distribution calculations.
Understanding of investment waterfalls in the distribution process.
Experience overseeing the 3rd party CPA preparation and internal review of 1065 and 1120 tax forms.
Prior communication experience with the IRS and State tax departments is desired, but not mandatory.
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
Ability to work independently and provide team leadership while fostering a cohesive work environment.
Must be efficient with strong attention to detail.
Working knowledge of industry standards, accounting controls, cash management.

Ability to kneel, squat, stoop or bend to perform tasks.
Reaches from floor level to overhead.
Ability bends forward at the lower back to perform tasks.
Sits up to 8 hours per day (including lunch and breaks).
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds
The noise level in the work environment is usually low
Minimal exposure to outside weather conditions
